What happens when you do regular maintenance for your air conditioning unit? What happens when you don’t?! Read this blog to see the full benefits of regular AC maintenance!

Air Conditioning Service

If you haven’t read our blog post about ‘How Often Should You Service Your Air Conditioner’ then you should start there as it will tell you some of the benefits of routine AC maintenance and some tips when to service it! But if you’re keen to know more and give your air conditioning unit its best life, then you’re in the right place!

In summary, it is extensively known that regular air conditioning maintenance will keep the AC unit functioning efficiently and effectively, prolong the life of that same unit, save you money not just because of being more energy efficient but also by being preventative and protective towards potential costly repairs, and even look after your health by maximising the quality that you have indoors!

Yes, all these and so much more is why AC maintenance is important! We recommended a service from yearly to even 4 times a year, depending on the unit itself, its location, specific purpose, usage and who will be in the area. Let’s have a look at more specific factors to consider when determining how often to service your AC unit:

- Age: with an older unit, unfortunately you may need to take care of it more often and ensure that it is serviced more frequently! The thing is that as an air conditioner system age, it can lose efficiency (because some parts may get faulty, other may need replacement, …) and as with any other technological equipment, a more frequent maintenance will be needed to run smoothly. Contrarily, if you have a newer unit, then servicing can be less frequent, and it won’t be needed to be serviced as often. Always check your specific manual guide for recommendations or check with us (available 24/7 for all your cooling and heating needs!)

- Any previous or current issues: along with obviously the unit age, any background and previous repairs or replacements can affect the frequency of your servicing. Furthermore, if you notice anything out of the ordinary such as unusual noises, smells or even leaks, a decline in cooling performance or even an unreasonable increase in energy bills, it's important to prioritise a service before any further complications. Depending on what needs to be address, it might be easily fixed, or it may jeopardise the whole unit and its future health.

- Type of unit: From the 3 major types of systems (you can read more about it here too!), it is known that ducted air conditioning systems will require more frequent maintenance than other type of units. This is due to their increased complexity and being a system with more parts and components. However, there are constant advances in the air conditioning and refrigeration field and there new systems coming out every year, so we recommend checking with your qualified technician how often you should do your regular ac maintenance!

- Climate: where you live can affect how often you should service your AC unit. With more extreme temperatures, such as a very hot and humid climate, you will probably be using your unit more frequently and also more potently, so in that case a more frequent servicing is advisable not only to prevent overheating (due to the natural climate) but also to make sure that the extra effort is not causing any big issues
